Watching El Camino Real High of Woodland Hills struggle to finish the regular season, opposing coaches and players might have thought the Conquistadores were ripe for a first-round upset.
But they know better. Everyone knows El Camino baseball is a different team when playoffs begin.
So when the Conquistadores entered the bottom of the seventh trailing 6-0 to Sylmar in the first round of the City Championship tournament and facing a pitcher who had yet to allow a hit, the mood in the dugout was desperate, yet oddly optimistic.
