Every week, many of us paw through the New Yorker just to read the cartoons before we even get to that great literary stuff. Speaking of literary stuff, there's ``The New Yorker's Book of Literary Cartoons'' (Pocket Books; $19.95), which lets you combine the two.
Funny? All you have to do is imagine what a book called ``Hernia'' by Stephen King or the ``to do'' list on James Joyce's refrigerator would look like.
The magazine also turns its jaundiced eye toward the modern world with ``The New Yorker's Book of Technology Cartoons'' (Bloomberg Press; $24.95), which includes a CD-ROM of cartoons that can be sent as e-mail attachments (very digital of them). ...
