The Daily News of Los Angeles is not for sale and there are no plans to sell it to the rival Los Angeles Times now or in the future, the newspaper's owner said Thursday.
Some media reports Thursday suggested that the Times was likely to buy the paper in the future because of an option it holds, despite antitrust laws that would forbid such a purchase.
The confusion arose after the Times published a story pointing out that its parent, the Times Mirror Co., holds a two-year-old option to buy the Daily News if it's put up for sale by Denver-based MediaNews Group, owner of the San Fernando Valley-based paper.
