PALMDALE - The Gospel Hummingbirds take gospel music out of the church and into blues festivals, nightclubs and concert halls.
``This music is for all people, and you shouldn't have to go to a black church in a black neighborhood to find it,'' said Roy Tyler, lead tenor and spokesman for the group.
The group will perform at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 15 at the Palmdale Playhouse.
The Gospel Hummingbirds were originally formed in the early 1960s by Joe Thomas Sr., but drifted apart. In 1970, Thomas' son, Joe Arden Thomas Jr., hooked up with Tyler to create a new version of the Hummingbirds that has survived.
