LANCASTER - When David Floyd began restoring a 1948 Chrysler New Yorker nearly 10 years ago, he never imagined it would result in his becoming a published author.

The NASA quality inspector started a diary recording his work, intending to leave both the finished auto - which had spent 18 years sitting unused in a Palmdale driveway - and the diary to his two daughters.

``Basically I wanted to keep the diary so whoever was to keep the auto would have a history,'' explained Floyd, who had worked on cars as a teen and took up the restoration as a family project.
