The Air Force is getting ready to kick off a "very accelerated" GPS III program in the next six months, said Air Force Col. Douglas Loverro, GPS Joint Program Office system program director at Air Force Space and Missile Systems Center.
The final answers on programmatic questions will be forthcoming in few weeks, Loverro said at a National Defense Industrial Association conference on military space last week in Falls Church, Va.
Over the past year, the Air Force has struggled with whether to start development of GPS III this year, in 2003, or to establish an interim program, Loverro said.
