Health Food Industry Sells Supplements, Not Science
In order to sell their nostrums, manufacturers of health food supplements, ranging from the more pedestrian protein powders and amino acids to the more exotic ginkgo biloba and gymnema sylvestre, rely not on sound science, but on testimonials from "satisfied customers," slick marketing techniques and sales devices, and misinformation. Unfounded, even ludicrous, claims appear to be the rule rather than the exception in this multi-million dollar industry.
