Dowding & Mills' swift response to the downturn has saved the industrial equipment maintenance group pounds 1 million in the last six months.

The Birmingham-based group's chief executive Martin Habgood said yesterday the seven per cent fall in sales the group suffered would have translated into a pounds 2.7 million drop in profit in real terms.
