A new report from Canada's Fraser Institute, an independent public policy organization, is criticizing the foundation of the government's Natural Health Products Directorate and further regulation of these products, stating it has been a "waste of both time and money."
According to the Institute, in 1997, 73% of Canadians at some point in their lives had used at least one complementary medicine, while 50% had used one during that year. It was estimated that, in total, Canadians spent C$3.8 billion ($2.4 billion) in the same year on alternative remedies.
In her study, A Cure Worse Than the Illness, health economist Cynthia Ramsay states that "the risk ...
