Pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly and Co. said Tuesday it is offering a discount prescription drug plan for seniors that charges $12 for each perscription, the lowest-rate plan introduced so far.

Under the plan, low-income elderly Americans with no current prescription drug coverage would pay $12 each month per prescription for a 30-day supply of any Eli Lilly retail drug. Many of those drugs treat chronic diseases that commonly afflict the elderly, such as Evista for osteoporosis, Humulin and Humalog for diabetes, and Prozac for depression.
