SALZBURG, Austria - The hills are still alive with the sound of music. In fact, they always have been.
For centuries, Salzburg's identity has been closely intertwined with melody. It is the birthplace of Mozart, a fact that attracts legions of European tourists. Americans, meanwhile, are largely drawn by a fascination with the 1965 film classic ``The Sound of Music,'' which was filmed there. (According to the Austrian Tourist Board, an amazing three out of four American tourists list the movie as their reason for visiting the country.)
