DALLAS _ Children may not be as safe in the rear seats of compact extended-cab pickups as they are in other cars and trucks, a new study has found.
Research published Wednesday reports that children in these seats are almost five times as likely to be injured in a crash as children in the backs of other vehicles. The study is the first to look at the risks of putting children in the rear seats of compact extended-cab pickups.
"They don't provide as much safety as other vehicles," said Dr. Flaura Winston of the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Her study appears in The Journal of the American Medical Association.
