FEW societies show as little respect or as much unconcern for their elderly as the British nowadays.
We have developed into being neither compassionate, tolerant nor understanding.
In a materialist and secular world of ephemera where the worship of youth is the new religion and everything has its price, the aged are often considered at best an eccentric irrelevance and at worst an expensive and aggravating burden.
Today, a new study commissioned by Help the Aged - who admittedly have an interest in the findings - concludes that older people in Britain face "blatant discrimination" in health, social care, employment and everyday life generally.
