HANOI, March 7 Asia Pulse - Farmers in the Cuu Long (Mekong) River Delta province of Ca Mau have helped revitalised the local economy by shifting from traditional rice growing to large-scale shrimp breeding.
According to director of the province's Planning and Investment Department Duong Tien Dung, shrimp breeding has become a spearhead in Ca Mau's economic restructuring.
He added that the province's seafood industry harvested more than 200,000 tonnes last year and shrimp accounted for 35 per cent of the output; Ca Mau is now considered the cradle of the national shrimp industry.
