ABIX via COMTEX) -- West Coast Railway founders, Don Gibson and Gary McDonald, have formed Tranz Scenic 2001 in New Zealand. The new company will run and operate Tranz Rail's former long-distance passenger business, in which Tranz Rail maintains a 50 per cent stake. The news comes as Tranz Rail increasingly outsources work while refocusing on core businesses. It has just signed a $A150m contract with Transfield Services that will see Transfield maintain its track for three years. Another $A200m seven-year contract with Alstom will see Alstom provide it with locomotive services.
