The mother of five charged with murdering her husband and dismembering his body was a battered woman who had been raped by the victim shortly before she shot him in his sleep, her attorney said Tuesday.
In an interview outside of court, defense attorney Jorge A. Alvarado said his client, Gladis Guadalupe Barreras, had endured years of physical, emotional and sexual abuse at the hands of her husband, Pedro Alba.
