The Dodgers are doing everything they can to take the pressure off Adrian Beltre.
Manager Davey Johnson awarded him the third baseman's job, short of Beltre booting every grounder from now until March 31. They don't need him to be their offensive catalyst and, if actions speak louder than dollars, consider this: General manager Kevin Malone spent $124 million on free agents in the offseason but never contemplated pursuing a third baseman because of his confidence in Beltre.
