In the early 1970s, actress Jayne Meadows helped save lives on the television drama ``Medical Center.'' To kick off the Easter weekend Saturday, Meadows and handfuls of celebrities helped in another way - serving meals to more than 4,000 homeless people in Downtown Los Angeles.
``It especially breaks my heart seeing the hungry children,'' said Meadows, wife of entertainer Steve Allen. ``In the '30s, my mother ran a soup kitchen. The family has been helping out with events like this ever since.''
