Subdued consumer price figures and slower job growth in August will allow the Federal Reserve to avoid another interest rate increase when it meets Tuesday to set its near-term policy course. But a November rate hike remains a distinct possibility if fresh signs of higher inflation or more strains in the tight job market emerge, economists say.
Most economists surveyed expect the Fed to keep rates unchanged at next week's policy meeting, following its two prior quarter-point rate increases over the summer.
