Even with the wealth of talent at his disposal at every position, Dallas Mavericks coach Don Nelson is still inclined to throw a surprise or two on the floor to cause matchup concerns for an opponent. Old habits are hard to break.
But that's what sets Nelson apart from many of his peers. Nelson has never been afraid to experiment with personnel, either out of necessity (to masquerade deficiencies as he did starting with his days in Milwaukee 25 years ago) or for sheer creativity purposes. In a league filled with formula coaches who pigeon-hole players for a specific position and/or role, Nelson's style has always been refreshing.
