FARMER and tourism entrepreneur Hopkin Smith has brought new business worth pounds 27,000 to the Caerphilly area due largely to the consequences of the foot-and-mouth crisis.
Mr Smith's 340-acre farm at Eglwysilan was forced to close completely for two months in February last year, because of the outbreak.
But instead of waiting for the good times to return, he put into practice the old maxim "It's good to talk", and literally spent days on the phone networking with old business contacts around the UK.
