IBM has placed its Tivoli division under new leadership - again. In June 2001, Robert LeBlanc, formerly the head of IBM's Storage Networking division, became the fourth person to lead the troubled systems management business since IBM acquired Tivoli in 1996. His mission is clear: to correct Tivoli's sinking market position.
Since 2000, Tivoli has seen revenues slide from a 1999 high of $1.8 billion. It has become the focus of harsh criticism from analysts, who point to an 'unfocused' marketing strategy and the over-selling of the capabilities of its end-to-end systems management portfolio, and from customers, dissatisfied with its support capabilities.
