Before traffic chokes I-696 on any summer morning, Chris Metzloff might be found wearing a suit and tie and standing beside a dirt road in Livingston County, squinting skyward at a ribbon of white birds pinwheeling above.
As Metzloff watches, his birds disperse and almost always fly home. The training exercise now over for the day, Metzloff climbs back in his truck to join the rest of rush hour.
