His work filled her scrapbook when she was in high school, he was her mentor in college, and he became her boss after graduation. But Isaac Mizrahi was absent the night Behnaz Sarafpour debuted her collection at Gavin Brown's downtown Manhattan gallery And that was how Sarafpour wanted it. Instead, she was the star, or rather her small line of clothing was--a mix of tuxedo-inspired basics full of details that demand a double take: a lean, grain de poudre jacket with only one lapel; an organza dress composed of interlocking beaded "oak" leaves; and a bolero made from satin ribbons folded to resemble roses.
