Mar. 12--The last time United Parcel Service and the Teamsters union met at the bargaining table, negotiations deteriorated into a 15-day strike that turned particularly ugly in South Florida.
Angry strikers in Miami assaulted a UPS driver who had crossed the picket line, beating and stabbing him repeatedly with an ice pick.
Five years later, the Atlanta-based package-delivery company and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters have begun talks on a new contract. Both sides vow things will be different this time around.
