NETHERLANDS Railways (NS) managing director, Mr Hans Huisinga, and NS' entire supervisory board have resigned in the wake of a crisis which has overtaken the railway operator following its poor performance over the past year.
The transport minister, Ms Tineke Netelenbos, had insisted that NS achieved an 80% punctuality target for passenger services during 2001, but it failed. Consequently, the supervisory board, chaired by Mr Jan Timmer, came under pressure from Netelenbos to dismiss Huisinga. In the event, Timmer, together with the rest of the board, decided to resign along with Huisinga.
