The percentage of Medicare beneficiaries based on total state population was lowest in Alaska and highest in West Virginia in 1998, according to data included in "Medicare State Profiles: State and Regional Data on Medicare and the Population it Serves," a report developed by Barents Group LLC of Washington, D.C., and The Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation.
The report, which offers a wealth of information, broken down state by state, about Medicare recipients, said that Medicare recipients in Alaska were just 5.4% of the total population, while they comprised 19% of the state population in West Virginia.
