The tragic events of September 11 caused many to ask themselves, "What can I do to help the victims and their families. How can we ensure this will not happen again?"
IRS Criminal Investigation (CI) special agents -- some of whom are CPAs -- were asking those questions, too. As law enforcement officers, CI agents could help. They assisted with grid searches at the crash sites at the World Trade Center and in Pennsylvania, searched for evidence at New York landfills, and accepted protection details of government personnel and property.
