NEWTON, Mass. -- Generally, mainstream media has contributed negatively to body acceptance and eating disorder prevention. Popular magazines, advertisements and television programming often fail to represent normal women or encourage a non-diet approach to eating. Instead, most media and advertisers aggressively promote weight-loss and the diet industry and use unreasonably thin models to sell products.
