Two-component injection moulding in which a thermoplastic is injected in the same cycle as a thermoplastic being explored by Krauss-Maffei, which has built a two-component machine in association with the Technical University of Iserlohn.
Earlier this year K-M hosted a seminar on thermosets at its Munich plant where the machine was demonstrated making thick-walled pan handles. In this process the thermoset component was injected first, and then the thermoplastic injected into the still-plastic core of the thermoset, the heat from the thermoplastic accelerating the cure of the thermoset.
