AS apologies go, this one is particularly hollow. Of course Gavyn Davies is sorry. Indeed, for a man who is almost obsessively cautious, he must be ashen. It has taken just six months since becoming chairman of the BBC for this lifelong Labour Party supporter to reveal his colours, exposed for the way he sneeringly dismisses the corporation's core viewers.
The BBC, he declares, should not listen to the 'white, middleclass, middle-aged and well educated' people who complain about dumbing down.
Instead Auntie, he patronisingly declares, should try to please 'the Asian teenager on the streets of Leicester'.
