Valencia Country Club, which resembled a forbidding swamp at dusk Monday, made a miraculous recovery during the night and is now high, dry and poised to host the Nissan Open on schedule, officials said.
Unrelenting rains Monday had produced lakes on several of the holes - and dampened the spirits of Valencia hosts eager to make a positive impression in this one-time hosting of the PGA tournament. But groundskeepers manned gasoline-powered pumps throughout the night, and by morning most of the unscheduled water hazards were gone.
