In response to Sharon Olson's request for the cabbage soup recipe used on the cabbage soup diet, 14 readers sent in similar recipes. Many noted that they had lost weight by eating this soup.
The recipe has been making the rounds for more than 20 years and has appeared in many newspapers and magazines. The Cabbage Soup Diet craze has swept the nation from time to time - and has been called by many names, including the Skinny Diet and the Basic Fat Burning Soup Diet. Where it and the soup recipe originated remains a mystery. The diet and soup have been attributed to several West Coast hospitals.
