Al Campanis, the architect of four Dodgers pennant winners and a World Series championship but who forever will be remembered for making racially insensitive remarks on national television, died Sunday at 81.
Campanis, the Dodgers general manager from 1968-87 who played in the minor leagues with Jackie Robinson, died in his sleep at his Fullerton home of coronary artery disease, according to the Orange County Coroner's Office.
He had diabetes and suffered four strokes during the past few years but just last weekend visited the Dodger Stadium box of former owner Peter O'Malley. It was O'Malley who ...
