Trucker Zbigniew Dabrowski barely escaped with his life Monday when he leaped from the cab of his stalled big rig, just moments before it was crushed by a Metrolink train.
``Suddenly the gates came down and I see the train coming and I had to jump,'' said Dabrowski, 39. ``You don't have time to think - just jump and run for your life.''
Exactly why the truck stalled is not clear, but Dabrowski said he spent 10 minutes trying to restart the engine, even as the crossing gates were lowering and the warning bells rang about 7:50 a.m. on Penrose Street, near San Fernando Road.
