Big record companies won an important first battle against computer and electronics makers Friday when a Los Angeles federal judge temporarily blocked production of a tiny black box that replays computer music files, which often are pirated.
U.S. District Judge Audrey Collins issued a 10-day temporary restraining order against San Jose-based Diamond Multimedia while she considers whether its Rio MP-3 player violates the 1992 Audio Home Recording Act.
