With hands trembling and voices stuttering, grown men and women handed baseballs and photographs to the quiet man on the other side of the table.
``You were the greatest,'' they told him.
He smiled and said ``thanks for waiting,'' as he signed their memorabilia, shook their hands and posed for photographs.
The man causing such a stir among adults and children alike was baseball legend Henry Aaron, the man who hit 755 home runs in his career, more than any other American player and 41 more than Babe Ruth.
