Wait until Thursday to snag a freshly baked pumpkin pie and you might end up cooling your heels in line while the pie is in the oven or, even worse, be forced to eat pound cake from a convenience store.
Credit that great holiday refrain - ``leave room for some pie'' - for turning a brown fruit dessert into a Thanksgiving must-have. (Ever eat a pumpkin pie at a Fourth of July picnic or after Easter dinner?)
You can credit the pumpkin pie with spawning another tradition: putting down a deposit on a pie and then waiting in a long line to pick it up.
