ALTHOUGH many of them don't know it yet, all Los Angeles residents have gained an ``Uncle Dave'' in 1998. And he loves kids. I know because he got me back to school with about 1,200 elementary school youngsters the other day, and most important, I learned something in the process.
I learned that kids will keep the local elected officials and bureaucrats on their toes; kids help adults keep their promises; and finally, kids can give us reason to be hopeful this year-end holiday season, when we adults are prone to make resolutions for doing all the things in the new year that we failed (again) to do this year.
