Lou Piniella loves him.
So he sent him to Triple-A.
Jose Cruz Jr., who starred with the Lancaster JetHawks last season and owns just a year-and-a-half of total minor-league experience, got a long, long look by Piniella and the Seattle Mariners this spring.
Cruz, son of the former Houston Astros All-Star, will play next to another famous junior soon enough in the Mariners outfield. But on Tuesday, the Seattle brass decided the 22-year-old needed a bit more seasoning. He'll open the year at Triple-A Tacoma.
