In the jaded atmosphere of a professional sports locker room, few things faze today's athletes.

Until they meet Arthur Black.

Black vividly remembers his first meeting with Houston Rockets forward Charles Barkley.

``He looked around and his eyes almost popped out of his head. He said, `You're the doctor?' ''

Then there was the time Black went to treat Shaquille O'Neal before a Lakers game.

``Shaq said, `It's good to meet you. I haven't met a black doctor before.' ''
