An even decade after a nationally televised newsshow interview revealed that Al Campanis lacked some of the necessities to be a Dodgers vice president, he is 80 years old, and he is not well.
He had a series of strokes two years ago and they affected his speech. He fell at home in Fullerton and broke an arm six weeks ago and has been in the hospital ever since. He is also being treated for pneumonia, anemia, diabetes and chronic heart disease.
The fall may have been fortuitous, said his son, Jim. ``It made him go to the hospital,'' Jim said. ``He's a tough guy. He won't go to the hospital.''
