A funny thing happened to Whoopi Goldberg on the way to Broadway: Her movie career tanked. Again.

Of course if it hadn't, she might never have gone back to Broadway - the site of her current triumph in ``A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum'' and of the legendary 1984 one-woman show that first brought her to Hollywood's attention. Thanks to ``Forum,'' she's once again back on top, which means she'll soon be back in Hollywood.

Goldberg has often been touchy about the unprecedented peaks and valleys of a movie career that has taken her from an Oscar win in ``Ghost'' to movies only the dead ...
