``The Lost World: Jurassic Park'' opened with monster returns, selling a record-setting $22 million worth of tickets at 3,281 theaters nationwide Friday, industry sources said.
The performance by Steven Spielberg's dino-sequel was the largest single-day gross for a movie, beating the $20 million taken in two years ago by the opening of Warner Bros.' ``Batman Forever.''
``Lost World'' might end the holiday weekend at around $70 million - well above the $56.8 million taken in during last year's Memorial Day weekend debut of Paramount's ``Mission: Impossible.''
