Last year Kara Milling, outside hitter for the UCLA women's volleyball team, was heading toward a remarkable junior campaign.
Then came the fourth match of the 1996 season.
In the first game of the Bruins' nonconference contest against Utah, Milling jumped up to block a shot and landed awkwardly on teammate Elisabeth Bachman's foot. The impact broke a bone in Milling's foot, an injury that forced her to miss nearly half the season.
