AT&T TO REIMBURSE TAXED AGOURA HILLS RESIDENTS.(News)

Nearly 18 months after Agoura Hills voters repealed a 4 percent utility tax, AT&T owes local long-distance customers thousands of dollars it mistakenly collected, then disbursed to Los Angeles County.

To rectify its error, AT&T plans to mail $5 gift certificates to about 4,000 Agoura Hills customers who were incorrectly charged a 5 percent county utility tax after the municipal utility tax was repealed in June 1996.

Furthermore, AT&T has no intention of asking Los Angeles County to repay the $8,000 that was erroneously collected from long-distance customers from August to November 1996, then sent on for deposit in the ...
