The sale of the Daily News of Los Angeles to an affiliate of William Dean Singleton's MediaNews Group was announced Thursday by trustees of the Jack Kent Cooke estate.
Acquisition of the Daily News by Garden State Newspapers means Singleton will own daily newspapers that virtually surround Los Angeles.
In 13 months, Singleton has put together a group of five dailies in Los Angeles County, including the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, Pasadena Star-News, Whittier Daily News and the Long Beach Press-Telegram, pending the latter deal's completion.
