Pepper spray is truly a hot commodity at stores like Turner's Outdoorsman in Reseda, where a new law making the weapon's purchase easier prompted customers to buy the store's entire stock of 200 cans in a week.
Before the law, the store sold 20 to 30 cans a week, said store manager Ron Shuart, who has responded to the buying frenzy by doubling his order.
"The first day wasn't too bad, but as people found out about the new law they went quickly," said Shuart, who had moved the pepper spray display to the front of the store and was still rapidly selling the self-defense tool Wednesday.
