A share of the country's goalscoring record now belongs to Eric Wynalda.
And the United States has a spot in the CONCACAF Gold Cup semifinals.
Wynalda's 21st goal in a national-team shirt, tying him with former teammate Bruce Murray as the top marksman in U.S. soccer annals, sparked the Americans to a 2-0 victory Tuesday night over El Salvador at Anaheim Stadium.
A delicate chip over El Salvador goalkeeper Raul Garcia in the 63rd minute, followed by Marcelo Balboa's game-sealing goal in the 76th, put the United States in Thursday's semifinals against Brazil.
