When people think of Van Nuys, they think of murder, kidnapping, bank robbery, assault and drive-by shootings.
At least, that's what Van Nuys businessman Flip Smith fears.
Because many high-profile criminal cases are tried at the superior and municipal courts in Van Nuys, and because news stories about the trials always mention the city, Smith feels that people unfairly associate Van Nuys with crime.
Smith, the chairman of the Sepulveda/Van Nuys boulevards' Business Watch, a local merchants' group, hopes to convince the county to rename the courts to the Civic Center Courthouse, an idea that ...
